Yummy homemade Hummus

I have been meaning to make hummus for Mya to try for quite sometime now, and I finally did it! Its very simple and tasty.

Here is the recipe I followed (although I did add a little more garlic than the recipe called for):

2 cans chickpeas
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tbs olive oil
1/4 cup tahini
2 cloves of garlic, chopped ( I used 3-4 cloves)
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1 1/4 tsp coarse salt
1/4 cup of liquid reserve from chickpeas

Reserve liquid, rinse, drain and rinse chickpeas. Place chickpeas and reserve liquid in food processor. Add lemon juice, olive oil, tahini (well stirred), chopped garlic, cayenne pepper and salt. Blend until smooth. Store in fridge in an airtight container for 7 days. Enjoy!

The taste test....

She loved it!

New toys!

A couple new toys made an appearance in our house this past week, one homemade, and one an Amazon purchase.

First up is our homemade Geo-board. Very simple and inexpensive to make, and even though Mya sometimes needs help placing the elastics on, she has a good time playing with it. I first saw a homemade Geo-board the idea from here.

On a whim I purchased a set of WEDGiTS from Amazon.com. A very neat toy, Mya will play with for many years. I highly recommend it!

On the mend...

Some days I have ideas and activities all planned out to do with Mya. And some days are a free for all, allowing Mya a chance to rely a little more on herself for entertainment. Both types of days are good and important in their own ways I think. We have been fighting a flu bug so it has been a little quiet around here lately. I'm more than lucky to have a pleasant little girl who is for the most part happy enough to play quietly while mommy tries to get better. Thanks Mya :)

This Moment: Morning visit from Great Grandma

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Sensory Play: Cornstarch Goo!

Today we got messy! Fun messy. I decided to make the girls ( I watch my little cousin three days a week) some Cornstarch Goo. It was GREAT. It felt really neat, I highly recommend trying it with kids of any age. It wasn't too hard to clean up either because it dries into a powder which is super easy to wipe up.

*Cornstarch Goo:

1 cup Cornstarch (I kept adding small amounts to change the consistency)
3/4 cup Water
Food Coloring (optional, I did not use any this time)
Cookie Tray (again optional, I just poured it on trays to contain the goo while the girls played)
